Johnson and Stengrim Each Score Twice as Brainerd Beats Fergus Falls 5-2

Brady Johnson and Kalvin Stengrim scored two goals apiece on Thursday night to lead the Brainerd boys’ hockey team to a 5-2 win over Fergus Falls at the Community Arena.  The Warriors had 30 shots on the Otters net and Fergus Falls had 23 shots on goal.

Johnson got the scoring started with a goal 3:46 into the first period, assisted by Dylan Wikoff.  Fergus Falls tied the game on a Colin Becker goal from Brayden Nelson and Leighton Buckmeier at 5:46 and took a 2-1 lead at 7:11 when Gavin Goepford tipped in a shot by Michael Schmidt.  Brainerd tied the game when John Finnegan scored, unassisted.

Brady Johnson notched his second goal of the night, unassisted, 1:49 into the second period and Kalvin Stengrim gave the Warriors a 4-2 lead at 15:36 with a power play goal.  Assists went to Ashton Extrand and Chad King.

Brainerd completed the scoring for the night with an empty net goal from Stengrim at 15:42 of the third period, assisted by Carter Gustafson.

Brody Lund stopped 21 shots in the Brainerd net and Brady Metcalf had 25 saves for the Otters.

The two teams will play each other on Friday night in Brainerd.
