The Perham boys’ basketball team continued their excellent shooting on the season as they hit 56.5% (26-46) of their field goal attempts, including 7-of-20 (35%) from 3-point range in their 69-40 win over the Barnesville Trojans on Thursday night.

The Yellowjackets were led by 21 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists from Soren Anderson, and 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals from Micah ThompsonAlex Ohm was also in double figures with 11 points and Mason Happel contributed 9 points

"I thought we played a really good first half," said Head Coach Matt Askegaard of Barnesville. "We spotted them 4 points to start the game and found ourselves down just 5 at the half. Offensively we were moving and attacking effectively. We missed a few shots and had some opportunities literally slip through our fingers in transition. Defensively in the first half we were solid. We gave up a few easy ones, but we mixed our match-up at times and that kept them out of their attack offense. At times I thought we could have rebounded better, but I felt we were in a good position going into half down only 5."

Owen Riddle and Tate Inniger led Barnesville with 8 and 7 points, respectively.  Zach Bredman and Braeden Bredman added 6 points each.  The Trojans shot just 34% (13-38) in the game.

"In the second half we struggled offensively," said Coach Askegaard. "One might think it was our defense, but we got caught in a 6-8 minute period where we struggled to score. We need to be better in the half court on offense. Perham is an outstanding defensive team and when we are not moving effectively without the ball they really don't have to do much.  Tomorrow is an opportunity to get better and we need to seize it and I know we will. There are too many highly competitive young men in our locker room not to."

Perham (14-1, 6-1 HOL) will play Watertown-Mayer at St. Michael-Albertville High school on Saturday.

Barnesville (8-5, 2-4 HOL) will play at Wadena-Deer Creek on Monday and will host Menahga on Tuesday.
