Sauk Rapids-Rice paid a visit to Fergus Falls for a Central Lakes Conference boys’ hockey game on Tuesday night.  Goaltender Zander Parker was on his game, stopping 37 of the 40 Otter shots on goal as the Storm left town with a 5-3 victory.

Sam Dirkman scored on a shot from the point at 4:14 of the opening period to give the Otters an early lead.  Assists were awarded to Kellen Stenstrom and Ethan McGuiness.  The Storm got their first line going with a goal from their leading scorer Teagan Dodge at 9:06, assisted by Nolan Thell and then took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Luke Pakkala, assisted by Dodge and Ethan Euteneur.  With under two minutes to play in the first period Keegan Patterson was assessed a five minute major penalty for boarding, giving the Otters a five minute power play opportunity.  Fergus Falls failed to score in the final two minutes of period one and also came up empty in the first three minutes of the second period.

Sauk Rapids-Rice took the momentum they gained from killing that major and added a pair of goals within a one minute span of the second period.  Pakkala scored form Dodge at 6:25 and Dodge scored an unassisted goal at 7:23.  Fergus Falls cut the lead to 4-2 with a late goal from Shane Zierden at 16:18.  Stenstrom and Dirkman assisted.

The Otters applied intense pressure in the third period, putting 17 shots on the Storm net.  They cashed in after pulling goalie Ben Swanson in favor of an extra attacker.  Brayden Nelson scored from Zierden and Leighton Buckmeier to bring the Otters within a goal at 4-3.  The Storm put the game away with an empty net goal by Dodge, from Keegan Patterson, at 15:49 of the third period.  The first line accounted for all five Storm goals on the night, with Dodge registering a hat trick.

Fergus Falls (8-6-1) will host Brainerd on Thursday night and then travel to Brainerd on Friday.
