The Barnesville boys’ basketball team made 54% (37-68) of their field goal attempts in their 88-31 thrashing of Crookston on Tuesday night.  The Trojans had 57 rebounds and the Pirates had 28.  Crookston struggled with their shooting, making only 21% (12-57) of their shots from the floor.

“We had a back and forth battle to start the game as they hit a few really tough, contested shots,” said Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard. “However, every time they hit one we pushed the ball immediately and were able to score some easy baskets. Yes, we traded a few 2s for 3s, but it becomes really disheartening when a team is so relentless in putting pressure on the defense and getting easy baskets. We did a great job of sharing and moving the basketball. We had 4 guys in double figures and continued to shoot the ball well.  Defensively, we were tough. We were able to get quite a few deflections which allowed us to get out in transition. We mixed some things up at different times to keep them off balance, but it was overall a great team defensive effort.”

Gannon Bolgrean (17 points, 12 rebounds, 8 asissts, 3 steals) led the Trojans with a solid all-around game.  Owen Riddle added 15 points and 5 rebounds, Wyatt Suter had 14 points and Carson Hagen finished with 13 points.  Tate Inniger grabbed a team high 15 rebounds, distributed 4 assists and scored 8 points.

Barnesville improves to 8-4 overall and the Trojans are 2-3 in conference play. They will host Perham on Thursday.
