The Sartell boys’ hockey team put 32 shots on the Fergus Falls net and the Otters had 20 shots on goal in the Sabres 5-1 win at the Community Arena on Thursday night.  The Sabres improved to 10-3-1 with the win and Fergus Falls is now 8-4-1 on the season.

Elliot Testa scored an unassisted 4-on-4 goal at 3:01 of the first period to give Sartell the early 1-0 lead.  Joey Johnson’s fifth goal of the season came at 11:23 with assists from Shane Zierden and Brayden Nelson as the Otters tied the game at 1-1.  Just over a minute later Kyan Rieder put Sartell back in the lead with assists from Baylor Stebbins and Jace Jansky.

The Sabres added two second period goals to make it 4-1 going into the third period.  Sterling McCabe was setup by Nolan Smith and Stebbins scored a power play goal with assists from Cullen Grahek and Smith to close out the scoring.

“They did a nice job taking time and space away from our guys,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “We played a slow game and they played fast.  We preach speed through the neutral zone, but we didn’t see too much of that tonight, especially in the first period.”

Fergus Falls will play at Alexandria on Friday night.
