Swanson Turns Back 36 Shots as Otters Win in Little Falls

Senior goalie Ben Swanson was on his game Tuesday night, stopping 36 of 38 Little Falls shots on goal to lead the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team to a 4-2 win at the Exchange Arena.  Fergus Falls scored four goals on 16 shots, including an empty net goal.

After one period of play the game was scoreless, but the two teams combined for five goals in the second period as the Otters took a 3-2 lead.  Kellen Stenstrom scored just 27 seconds into the period with assists from Brayden Nelson and Ethan McGuiness to get the Otters on the scoreboard first.  At 3:03, Colin Becker scored from Nelson, handing Fergus Falls a 2-0 lead.  Little Falls answered at 4:14 on a Matt Filippi goal from Hudson Filippi and Coltin Johnson, trimming the lead to 2-1.  At 11:08 Jax Katzenmeyer made it 3-1 with assists from Luke Norgard and Gavin Goepferd.  Little Falls cut the lead to 3-2 when Matt Filippi assisted on Joey Welinski’s goal at 15:31.

Stenstrom notched his second goal into the empty net at 15:40 of the third period.  Assists were awarded to Nelson, his third of the night, and Shane Zierden.

Fergus Falls (8-3) will travel to Red Lake Falls on Friday night.
