The West Central Area lady Knights had a strong first half on Saturday afternoon as the build a 28-19 halftime lead against the Fergus Falls Otters.  The Otters battled back to tie the game at 45-45 with under five minutes remaining in the game, but WCA was able to hold on for a 58-51
victory.

“We got off to a tough start and West Central Area came ready to play,” observed Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer.  “We made a nice run to tie it but had to deep a hole to climb out of and just couldn’t get over the hump. WCA is a well-coached team and they played really well against us.”

Cyntreya Lockett led the Otters with 21 points and 9 rebounds.  Brynn Sternberg was also in double figures with 16 points.

The lady Knights shot 36.5% (19-52) from the field.  They were led by Macy Grosz (21 points, 8 assists) who made 8-of-10 free throws, and Claire Stark (17 points, 9 rebounds).  Addison Staples had a team high 12 rebounds and finished with 7 points.

“This was a great game all around for my team,” said West Central Area Head Coach Becca Holland. “We came to play and it showed from the beginning of the game. These girls stepped up and brought the energy knowing what they had to do to win this game. We had a 10 point lead a majority of the game. Fergus took a run at us in the second half and we knew we had to slow them down and play our game. I am very proud of the fight and energy they brought to this game.”

West Central Area (4-6) will host Staples-Motley on Tuesday night in Barrett.

Fergus Falls (5-4) will play at Willmar on Tuesday.
