Senior Jayson Shaugabay became the all-time scoring leader for the Warroad boys’ hockey team on Saturday as he recorded a goal and 4 assists in the Warriors 10-4 win over Fergus Falls.  Shaugabay tied previous record holder TJ Oshie with an assist on the first goal of the game and then broke the record on his second assist, also in the first period.

Warroad got a pair of goals from Carson Pilgrim in the opening period, the first on the power play, assisted by Shaugabay and Erick Comstock, and the second when the Warriors were short handed with an assist from Shaugabay.

The Warriors added to their lead with a pair of goals within 30 seconds of each other in the second period.  Garrett Hennum scored from Comstock and Taven James at 2:01 and Gaabi Boucha scored from James and Ryan Lund 30 seconds later.  Kellen Stenstrom’s 11th goal of the year came at 11:32 and was assisted by Brayden Nelson, getting the Otters on the board.  Warroad increased their lead to 5-1 after two periods when Shaugabay scored a power play with 3 seconds remaining in the period with assists from Lund and Pilgrim.

Fergus Falls came out strong in the third period as Jack Welde notched a power play goal from Shane Zierden at 5:54 and Leighton Buckmeier scored an unassisted goal at 7:24, cutting the Warroad lead to 5-3.  Pilgrim completed his hat trick at 8:47, assisted by Lund, to get the lead back to 3 goals.  The Otters responded at 10:05 when Nelson netted his first goal of the season with Buckmeier assisting.  Warroad made it 7-4 on Pilgrim’s fourth goal of the day, setup by Shaugabay and Murray Marvin-Cordes.  Marvin-Cordes scored from Shaugabay at 14:10 to make it an 8-4 game and Pilgrim’s unassisted goal at 15:28 increased the lead to 9-4 and gave him five goals and six points in the game.  The final goal of the day came from Marvin-Cordes with the Warriors shorthanded.  It was assisted by James.

Warroad had 46 shots on goal and the Otters finished with 24 shots.

Fergus Falls (6-3-1) will travel to Little Falls on Tuesday and Red Lake Falls on Friday.
