River Lakes goalie Kaydence Roeske stopped 43 of 46 shots she faced, however, a shorthanded tally by Maddie Brimhall with 1:04 left in the game broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Otters back to Fergus Falls with a 3-2 victory over the Stars.

“We knew going in how awesome Roeske was,” said Head Coach Tim Lill of the Otters.  “Well, she was better than that.  We spent probably 40 of 51 minutes in the offensive zone and needed a shorty by Brimhall with a minute left to win.  We have TRF on Friday night and then scoring drills for hours.”

It didn’t take the home team long to get on the board as a goal by Ayla McLellan just 35 seconds in put River Lakes on top, 1-0.  Sophie Hess assisted on the goal.  At 10:48 of the opening period, Maddie Hulter’s goal from Skye Norgren and Tyra Skjeret tied the game 1-1.

Following a scoreless second period, River Lakes struck quickly in the third when Sophie Olson scored from Hess 21 seconds in.  Fergus Falls tied the game at 6:47 when Averie Tonneson found the back of the net with assists from Ella Starzl and Rachel DeBrito.  Brimhall’s game winner was unassisted.

Lexi Metcalf came up with 11 stops in the Fergus Falls net.
