Underwood and Pelican Rapids battled on Tuesday night in Underwood and the Rocket girls’ were able to come up with a 47-41 victory over the lady Vikings. Underwood held a 30-19 halftime edge, but Pelican Rapids battle back and kept it close throughout the second half.
“This was a big win for us,” said Underwood Head Coach Brian Hovland. “I though Mo Bugbee had an excellent game on the defensive end, holding Morgan Korf to 10 points. As a team, we rebounded much better and played some great team defense.”
Liz Lukken (18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists), Bugbee (10 points, 3 assists) and Kallyn Grove (10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) led the way for the Rockets.
Ellie Welch joined Korf in double digits for the Vikings, scoring a team high 13 points. She also had 10 rebounds to register a double-double. Hazel Haugrud contributed 8 points and Kelsey Isaman had 6 points and a team high 11 rebounds. Korf, Welch and Claudia Gurath each had 2 assists.
Underwood (8-2) will host Brandon-Evansville in a Little Eight Conference matchup on Friday night.
Pelican Rapids (8-2) will host Heart O’ Lakes Conference rival Hawley on Thursday night.
