Fergus Falls avenged an earlier season loss to Bemidji with a 5-1 win over the Lumberjacks in the semifinal round of the Robbinsdale-Armstrong Girls’ Holiday Hockey Tournament on Friday at the New Hope Arena.  The Otters advance to the championship game against Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday afternoon at 3:15.

“If we played this way all the time I wouldn’t have anything to whine about,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “Total team effort from all 3 lines, poise from all 5 defensemen, and Lexi Metcalf’s outstanding goaltending.”

The Otters scored two first period goals within 20 seconds of each other as Maddie Hulter got them on the board with an assist from Tyra Skjeret at 12:08 and Hannah Johnson tallied an unassisted goal at 12:28.

Ellie Solheim cut the lead in half with the lone Bemidji goal at 6:51 of the second period.  The Otters responded with a goal from Rachel DeBrito at 14:47, assisted by Maddie Brimhall and Maggie Greenagel, and Brimhall added a goal from DeBrito at 16:24 as the period ended with a 4-1 advantage on the board for Fergus Falls.

Hulter notched her second goal of the game and thirteenth of the year, a shorthanded tally at 8:57 of the third period, to put the final score at 5-1.

Metcalf stopped 18 of the 19 shots she face.  The Otters had 24 shots on the Bemidji net.

Fergus Falls (11-4) has won three straight games.
