Ana Jyrkas was nearly unbeatable in goal for the Otter girls’ hockey team on Thursday as she stopped 22 of 23 shots.  The Otters put 21 shots on the Park-Cottage Grove net and posted a 3-1 victory.

“Fantastic effort tonight,” exclaimed Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “The girls deserve to get this win as they out-worked a very solid squad.  Jyrkas was as good as it gets.”

An unassisted power play goal by Skye Norgren in the first period got the Otters off to a good start.

In the second period, Hannah Johnson put the Otters ahead 2-0.  Tyra Skjeret assisted on the goal.  Park cut the lead to 2-1, but the combination of Johnson and Skjeret repeated their effort in the third period, with Maddie Hulter also assisting, and the Otters took the 3-1 win in the opener of the Robbinsdale-Armstrong Tournament at the New Hope Arena.  The Otters will play at 7:30pm on Friday against Bemidji.
