The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team scored the first four goals of the game and went on to post a 5-1 win over Detroit Lakes as the Otters captured their Holiday Tournament title with a record of 2-0-1 over the three days of play.  Fergus Falls had 26 shots on goal, compared to 22 for DL.

Senior Jax Katzenmeyer got the scoring started with a goal at 4:37 of the first period.  Assists were awarded to his linemates, Michael Schmidt and Gavin Goepferd.  At 13:15 of the period, Joey Johnson scored from Jack Welde and Griffin Babolian, giving the Otters a 2-0 advantage at the intermission.

Welde made it 3-0 just 54 seconds into the second period with assists from Babolian and goaltender Ben Swanson.  A power play goal from Colin Becker at 4:16 extended the lead to 4-0.  Leighton Buckmeier and Kellen Stenstrom assisted on the goal.  Detroit Lakes notched their only goal of the game at 15:46 when Aiden Kennedy scored from Jace Fields.

An empty net goal by Ethan McGuiness, assisted by Stenstrom, close out the scoring.

Swanson stopped 21 of 22 DL shots on goal, and Josh Mack came up with 21 saves on 26 Otter shots.

Fergus Falls (5-2-1) will travel to Thief River Falls on Friday night and will play at Warroad on Saturday afternoon.
