Turnovers Lead to Loss for Otter Girls

Detroit Lakes forced 26 Fergus Falls turnovers on Wednesday night, turning many of them into transition baskets and taking a 60-50 win over the Otters in the AmericInn Country Inn and Suites Holiday Basketball Classic at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium.

The Lakers scored the first 7 points of the game and took a 12-2 lead.  They proceeded go the next 8 minutes without a point as the Otters fought to within a point at 12-11.  Fergus Falls took the lead for the first time in the game at 21-20 with 2:30 left in the first half and held a 26-23 edge at halftime.  Sixteen of the Otters turnovers came in the second half as the Lakers built a 15 point lead to take control of the game.

Grace Gunderson and Abby Larson were in double figures for the Lakers, scoring 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Cyntreya Lockett had a team high 13 points to lead the Otters and Brynn Sternberg added a dozen.  Lockett also had 8 rebounds and Sternberg had 6 boards and led the team with 4 assists.  Karyssa Eberle snared 9 rebounds and Jenna Carlson came up with a pair of steals.

Fergus Falls (3-3) will play Hancock for third place in the tournament at 6:30pm Thursday.

Detroit Lakes and Crookston will square off for the championship at 2:00pm.

Crookston beat Hancock 56-55 in the other semifinal contest.
