The Underwood girls’ basketball team had a tough battle with Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Wednesday as they opened the Minnesota National Bank Holiday Classic in Pelican Rapids with a 64-54 victory. The Rockets led 31-28 at the half, as the Wolves were difficult to put away.
Liz Lukken (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Mo Bugbee (20 points, 6 rebounds) led the way in points and rebounds. Zoey Swanson joined them in double figures with 10 points and Kallyn Grove grabbed 10 rebounds and came up with 5 steals.
Underwood (7-1) will now face Badger-Greenbush-Middle River in the championship game of the Valkyrie Division of the tournament at 4:15pm Thursday. BGMR advanced to the title game with a 60-51 win over New York Mills.
