Stenstrom and Johnson Net Two Goals Each as Otters Win Home Opener

Kellen Stenstrom and Joey Johnson each scored twice on Tuesday night to lead the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team to a 4-1 win in their home opener over River Lakes.

 

Kellen Stenstrom got the scoring started with a goal at 8:11 of the first period.  Gavin Goepford and Ethan McGuiness assisted on the goal.

Joey Johnson made it a 2-0 Otter lead 1:02 into the second period, assisted by Jack Welde and Leighton Buckmeier.  Johnson’s second goal came at the 3:10 mark of the period when he backhanded the puck into the net on a rebound of a McGuiness shot.  The Otters made it 3-0 on Stenstrom’s second goal at 3:38 of the period, unassisted.

Senior goalie Ben Swanson lost his shutout bid at 13:26 of the third period when Anthony Fink beat him high to the glove side.  Tyson Bruntlett assisted on the goal.

Swanson finished with 17 saves and Fergus Falls had 30 shots on goal.

The Otters will host their home tournament next week.
