The Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team traveled to Pequot Lakes on Tuesday night where they quickly fell behind 2-0 to Northern Lakes.  The Otters then scored three straight goals and held on to their one goal advantage through a scoreless third period to return home with a 3-2 victory over the Lightning.  Fergus Falls had 40 shots on goal, compared to 13 for Northern Lakes.

The Lightning got on the board at the 8:10 mark of the first period when Jerret Tietz scored from Rose Aldridge.

A goal by Ava Merta at 3:07 of the second period was setup by Jenna Stoerzinger, giving Northern Lakes a 2-0 lead.  The Otters then went on a tear, scoring 3 straight goals to take the lead.  Maddie Hulter’s power play goal from Tyra Skjeret and Hannah Johnson at 4:55 made it 2-1.  At 9:36, Mackenzie Sjolie scored from Vanessa Vaughn to tie the game.  Maddie Brimhall notched the game winner from Averie Tonneson at 15:31 of the second.

Lexi Metcalf stopped 11 of the 13 shots she faced.

“We woke up after the first period and our fore check was text book,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill.  “We did everything right with the exception of scoring.  Things don’t always bounce your way, but we managed to get a victory and get out of town.  Each line scored tonight.”

Fergus Falls (9-4) will travel to New Hope next week for a Holiday Tournament.
