The Hawley girls’ basketball team recorded a 62-50 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday night.

“Tough one tonight at Hawley,” acknowledged WDC Head Coach Jordan Cresap. “They are big, athletic and physical and we had a tough time matching their physicality as the game wore on. We knew they would be good in transition but we failed to stop their fast breaks when we needed to most. Isabella Steer (32 points) played an outstanding game. Offensively we played okay and moved the ball well, just couldn’t buy a bucket in the second half.”

Sophie Cook scored 12 points and Anna Steer added 10 points for the Nuggets, who improved their season record to 4-2.

Maddie Carsten led the Wolverines with 21 points and she was joined in double digits by Montana Carsten with 11.

Hawley is off until Tuesday, January 3 when they will host Thief River Falls.

Wadena-Deer Creek (4-2) will play Henning on January 3 in Wadena.
