Perham handed Pelican Rapids their first loss of the season on Friday night as the Yellowjackets beat the Vikings 71-44 in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference girls’ basketball matchup in Pelican Rapids.  Perham led 31-19 at the half.  The Yellowjackets remained undefeated at 5-0 and the Vikings fell to 4-1.

“Overall, we shot 50% (15-30) on 2’s, and 12-26 on 3’s. 11 turnovers on over 75 possessions is a pretty good number, we were moving the ball well tonight,” commented Perham Head Coach TJ Super

Willow Thiel led a strong rebounding effort by the Yellowjackets with 8 boards.  Mya Morris snared 6 rebounds and dished out a team high 4 assists, while scoring 10 points. Cora Grismer and Kennedy Pilgrim added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

“Willow was very sick.  Still played a bunch, but low energy and she struggled with her strength depleted. Having 6 girls at or near double figures is quite impressive,” said Coach Super. “I think Willow has led us in scoring every game so far so to score 71 points with only getting 4 from her is very good.  Anyone that watched that game, though, could clearly see it was our defense that led us to the win. Our girls were locked in defensively, talking, helping, and rotating. Overall, it was a very good performance for the entire team!”

Morgan Korf led the Vikings with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.  Kelsey Isaman had a team high 9 rebounds and Hazel Haugrud added 6 boards.

The Vikings will host Hillcrest in a 7:00pm contest on Monday night.

Perham will host Barnesville on Tuesday night.
