Perham Wrestlers Have Busy Start to the Season

The Perham wrestling team had a busy first week with a Triangular in Thief River Falls and the Sertoma Duals.  The Yellowjackets were 2-4 against some stiff competition and will have another busy week as they host a home triangular on Tuesday night and will compete in the Pequot Lakes Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

 

Thief River Falls 48, Perham 24
The first dual of the season for the Yellowjackets was a battle with the defending Section 8AA champion Thief River Falls. The Prowlers held off the Yellowjackets, picking up a 48-24 victory in a battle of section foes. 

Dresden Wegscheid picked up a win for the Yellowjackets at 106, while Isaac Adams was victorious at 120. Chandler Mickelson captured a win at 138, while Jaxon Vetsch was victorious for the Yellowjackets at 285. Carson Byer added to the win total with a victory at 145. 

Bemidji 41, Perham 26
Bemidji used a strong run in the middleweights to pick up a 47-24 victory over the Yellowjackets during the Thief River Falls Triangular on Dec. 6. 

Wegscheid earned a forfeit win at 106, while Braylon Rach picked up a key win at 195 for the Yellowjackets. Rorey Lindquist was victorious as well at 220, while Jaxon Vetsch closed out with a victory at 285 for the Yellowjackets. 

Sertoma Tournament|
Perham 41, West Fargo 30

The Yellowjackets opened the Sertoma Duals with a 41-30 victory over West Fargo in their opening dual of the tournament. 

Nick Peters, Chandler Mickelson, Carson Byer, Hudson Hackel, Jaxon Vetsch, Dresden Wegscheid, Isaac Adams and Tiegan Detloff all earned wins in their respective weight classes, helping Perham to the 11-point win to start the day. 

Jamestown 40, Perham 27
The quarterfinal round match wasn’t as friendly for the Yellowjackets when they suffered a 40-27 defeat to Jamestown to cap off the opening day of the tournament. 

Tryston Larson, Hackel, Aiden Vetsch, Adams and Mickelson all picked up wins for the Yellowjackets in the defeat to Jamestown.

Perham 54, Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie 24
Perham opened day two of the Sertoma Duals with a 54-24 victory over Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie. 

Larson, Rach, Hackel, Rorey Lindquist, Jaxon Vetsch, Adams, Tiegan Detloff, Mickelson, Nick Peters and Byer all found the win column in helping the Yellowjackets to the convincing win over B-H/V/PP. 

Thief River Falls 54, Perham 24
|he Yellowjackets met up with a familiar opponent when they squared off with Thief River Falls for the second time in a week. The Prowlers came away with their second straight victory over Perham, knocking off the Yellowjackets 54-24. 

Hackel, Wegscheid, Adams, Mickelson and Johnny Ramos all earned wins for the Yellowjackets in the loss with Thief River Falls. 

Jamestown 36, Perham 33
For the second time in a short period, Perham and Jamestown squared off at the Sertoma Duals. It was Jamestown capturing a narrow victory over the Yellowjackets, 36-33. 

Hackel, Lindquist, Jaxon Vetsch, Aiden Vetsch, Adams, Detloff and Mickelson picked up wins for the Yellowjackets, but it was Jamestown which rallied from an early deficit to secure the win.
