Pelican Rapids and Frazee fought through a competitive half of Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball on Friday night with the Vikings taking a 31-26 halftime lead over the Hornets.  Pelican hit their stride in the second half and went on to record a 73-51 victory, improving their season record to 4-0.

“We trailed for much of the first half as Frazee came out and was the much more physical and aggressive team and we had a hard time adjusting to that,” commented Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud.  “We were able to put together a run towards the end of the first half to go into halftime with a lad that we were able to slowly extend throughout the second half to come away with a hard-nosed conference win against a tough and scrappy Hornet squad.”

Ian Fahje and Charlie Larson reached double digits for the Vikings, scoring 27 and 13 points, respectively.

Alex Helmers led Frzee with 25 and Adam Vigen had a dozen.

Pelican Rapids will host Thief River Falls in their next game on Tuesday night.

Frazee (1-2) will play at Perham on Thursday.
