The Wadena-Deer Creek girls’ basketball team ran their winning streak to start the season to four games with a 72-56 win at New York Mills on Friday night. The lady Wolverines led 47-25 at the half and held on to their lead throughout the second half to record the victory.
“Big first half offensively propelled us in this one,” said Wadena-Deer Creek Head Coach Jordan Cresap. “Thought we moved the ball well, trusted each other within the offense, and hit some shots. We knew we had a big challenge in matching the physicality of New York Mills and I thought we did a good job of battling them inside and on the boards. Thought we responded well to a NYM run in the second half and played with composure to end the game.”
Montana Carsten scored a game high 22 points, burying six 3’s, all in the first half. Maddie Carsten added 5 3’s, four of them in the first half, and finished with 19 points. Addyson Gravelle had 11 points, including one 3-pointer.
New York Mills was led by Kali Olson with 23 points and Ayla Olson with 13.
The Eagles will host defending Class A State Champion Hancock on Saturday, December 17 at 1:30pm.
Wadena-Deer Creek travels to face Crosby-Ironton on Tuesday night.
