Fergus Falls won the rebounding battle 45-29, but turned the ball over 26 times on Tuesday night in Sartell as they lost their Central Lakes Conference opener to the Sabres by the score of 49-32. Sartell led 20-11 at halftime as the Otters struggled to get things going on the offensive end.
“We played really well defensively,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Josh Steer. “Our defense gave us a chance to win the game. Rebounding continues to be a strength for us, but we need to find a way to take better care of the ball and hopefully that will come with more game experience.”
Cyntreya Lockett led the team with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots. Brynn Sternberg had a team high 12 rebounds to go along with 5 assists and 5 points. Karyssa Eberle added 6 points and 7 rebounds, and Karley Braeger had 6 points and 4 assists.
Ella Gainsford and Chloe Turner led the home team with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Avery Templin had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Fergus Falls (1-1) has their home opener against Rocori on Friday night.
