Sartell scored three goals in the third period, snapping a 1-1 tie and taking a 4-1 victory over the Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team.  The Sabres had 28 shots on goal, compared to 17 for the Otters.  Ben Swanson turned aside 24 shots in the Otter net, while Noah Hacker had 16 saves for Sartell-St. Stephen.

“We had lots of power play time in the first period and could not capitalize,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “Sartell competed hard to kill the penalties.  Swanny held us in there in the second after we were able to tie the game with a power play goal from Zierden.  We got beat in the third, just need to execute better when we were tired.”

Jack Schmitz scored the first goal of the night at 15:26 of the opening period with an assist from Kyan Rieder, giving the Sabres a 1-0 lead.

A power play goal by Shane Zierden 1:37 into the second period knotted the score at a goal apiece.  Brayden Nelson and Colin Becker assisted on the goal.

Baylor Stebbins goal at 4:04, from Elliot Testa and Anthony Colatrella put the Sabres back on top, 2-1.  At 11:45 Colatrella scored from Nolan Smith and Stebbins for a 3-1 lead and at 15:38 Stebbins scored again, this time from Cullen Grahek and Testa, finishing the scoring for the night.

Fergus Falls (1-2) will travel to Sauk Rapids on Thursday.
