Sartell-St. Stephen paid a visit to the Runestone Community Center on Thursday night for a Central Lakes Conference boys’ hockey matchup with the Alexandria Cardinals. Alexandria had 35 shots on goal and the Sabres had 30, however, the visitors won the game 4-3.
The Sabres took a 1-0 lead at 7:47 of the opening period on a goal from Jack Schmitz, assisted by Kyan Rieder and Elliot Testa. They increased their lead to 2-0 at 9:14 when Sterling McCabe scored from Nolan Smith and Anthony Colatrella. Alexandria cut the lead in half on an unassisted goal by Tyler Kludt at 13:03.
Sartell-St. Stephen made it 3-1 on a goal by Colatrella, assisted by Smith and Baylor Stebbins.
At 2:29 of the third period, Nick Peterson notched a power play goal for Alexandria with assists from Jack Lamski and Gavin Olson, making it a 3-2 score. The Sabres got their two goal margin back on the board at 11:38 when Stebbins scored from Smith and Colatrella. Alexandria made the final score 4-3 when Peterson scored from Kludt at 16:11.
