Alexandria Boys Yield 8 Goals in Loss to Orono

Orono went 3-for-4 on the power play Saturday and even though they were outshot 35-32 by the Alexandria boys’ hockey team, the Spartans were able to win the game, 8-5.  Orono led 3-1 after the first period and 6-3 after two periods of play.

An even strength goal 47 seconds into the game by Avery Anderson was setup by Easton Sankey and spotted the Spartans an early 1-0 lead.  Nick Peterson pulled Alexandria even just 11 seconds later with an assist from Joe Lamski.  A pair of power play goals gave Orono a 3-1 lead at the end of one period as John Engebretson scored from Bradley Walker at 8:49 and Connor Lang found the back of the net with assists from Anderson and Joey Mugaas at 16:34.

At 2:43 of the second period the Cardinals pulled to within a goal when Keegan Lucy netted a power play goal from Peterson.  Orono got the goal and a two-goal lead back on the board at 8:53 when walker scored from Anderson, even strength.  At 9:17, Tyler Kludt’s goal from Lamski and Peterson brought Alexandria back to within a goal at 4-3.  Orono notched two late goals to end the period with a 6-3 cushion.  Sankey scored from Anderson at 12:43 and Rylan Schultz added a power play goal from Walker at 16:35.

Alexandria notched the first goal of the third period when Lucy got his second of the game, assisted by Jack Breitzman at 1:58.  At 7:04, Walker scored from Engebretson for Orono and at 8:05 the Spartans scored for the eighth time in the game when Lang setup Cayden Effertz.  Breitzman ended the scoring for the night at 11:02 with Gage Castle and Lucy assisting.

Alexandria (0-2) will host Little Falls on Tuesday night at the Runestone Community Center.
