The M State lady Spartans took a 17-10 lead after one quarter, increased their lead to 30-18 at halftime and built a 48-22 lead after three quarters as they went on to defeat Mesabi Range 63-41 on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls. M State forced 28 turnovers and only turned the ball over ten times in the game.
M State placed three players in double figures, led by a double-double from Lindsey Kurz (14 points, 10 rebounds) and a near double-double from Kiera Cox (15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists). Itzel Salazar scored a dozen points, grabbed 5 steals and dished out 2 assists. The lady Spartans shot 34.6% (27-78) from the field, but went 0-for-15 from beyond the arc.
Mesabi Range made only 29.2% (14-48) of their field goal attempts. They held a 47-43 edge on the boards. Anna Fink (14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) and Deetra Davis (6 points, 13 rebounds) were the leaders for the Norse.
M State (4-2) is at home Wednesday against NDSCS with a 5:30pm tip-off.
