Brekken Tull scored a pair of goals and Cassie Solheim added 3 assists as the Crookston girls’ hockey team paid a visit to the Community Ice Arena in Fergus Falls and returned home with a 4-1 victory.  The Pirates had 22 shots on goal compared to 15 for the Otters.

Tull got the scoring started at 3:22 of the opening period, assisted by Solheim and Reese Swanson.  At 14:51, Solheim scored from Ashlyn Bailey, giving Crookston a 2-0 advantage.  Tull’s second of the period was assisted by Solheim and Field.

The only goal for the Otters came from Hannah Johnson on the power play at 9:03 of the second period.  Assists were awarded to Maddie Hulter and Tyra Skjeret.

Crookston completed the scoring on a goal from Taylor Field, assisted by Morgan Nelson and Solheim.

Crookston goalie Kambella Freije came up with 14 saves to earn the victory in net, and the Otters Lexi Metcalf stopped 18-of-22 shots on goal.

“I was content with our effort tonight, but the execution and puck battles weren’t good enough to beat a skilled team,” said Coach Tim Lill of the Otters.  “Crookston was sharp and poised.  We learned a lot about our game.”

Fergus Falls (5-2) will travel to Thief River Falls for a Friday night game and then will head to East Grand Forks for a 2:30pm start against the Greenwave.
