Lakers Blank Otters is Boys Hockey Season Opener

The Detroit Lakes boys’ hockey team controlled the game from start to finish on Saturday afternoon as they shutout the Fergus Falls Otters, 4-0, in the season opener for both teams at the Kent Freeman Memorial Ice Arena in DL.  The Lakers had 36 shots on goal compared to just 11 for the Otters.

Detroit Lakes scored at 12:13 of the first period when Cole Larson found the back of the net with assists from Carter Bellefuille and Thomas Suckert.

A power play goal at 8:33 by Suckert made it 2-0 with assists from Jace Fields and Larson.  The Lakers then scored on a goal off the face-off with 53 seconds remaining in the second period.  Cole Deraney pulled the puck back to Jack Turner who blistered a shot past Fergus Falls goalie Ben Swanson.

The final goal of the game was a shorthanded tally by Aiden Kennedy, assisted by Benjamin Hines.

Fergus Falls will play Northern Lakes in a road contest on Tuesday night.
