The West Central Area boys’ basketball team is coming off a tremendous season that saw them go 22-5 overall on the way to a West Central Conference championship with an 11-1 record.  The Knights suffered a big setback as they lost their do everything all-area point guard Cam Anderson for the season with a knee injury that occurred during the football season.

The Knights do return starters Cole Anderson (6-2, SR), Jacob Strunk (6-1, SR) and Nasir Dotts (5-9, JR).  They also return several other capable players in seniors Brett Amundson (6-4), Isaac Kreft (6-2), Roman Mihailovschi (6-1) and Damon Sanstead (6-3), juniors Dane Anderson (5-10), Mitch Dewey (5-9), Bryce Kjesbo (6-1), and Brady Lindquist (6-0), and sophomores Ben Bye (6-5), Sam Hanson (5-10) and Cash Nelson (6-0).

“Our lineup will lack size playing in the West Central Conference as teams like Melrose, Morris, Sauk Centre, BOLD, Montevideo, Minnewaska Area and Benson feature very big lineups,” stated Head Coach Kraig Hunter, entering his 27th season with the Knights.  “We will have to emphasize rebounding, physical play, and use our defense to be successful.”

Hunter, who will be assisted by Brian Kjesbo, Jon Nelson and Brad Westrom, sees New London-Spicer, Eden Valley-Watkins, Litchfield, Paynesville and Pipestone as the favorites in Section 3AA.  In the West Central Conference, Sauk Centre is the favorite with Melrose, Morris and BOLD all being very strong as well.
