Breck-Wahp Girls Fall to River Lakes

River Lakes converted 3 power play goals as they defeated the Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades 7-2 in a high school girls’ hockey contest on Monday night.  Breck-Wahp held a slim 34-33 advantage in shots on goal.

River Lakes jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Aubree McDonagh and Addie Olson.  McDonagh’s even strength goal was setup by Adalyn Fleischhacker at 3:56 of the period and Makayla Schrieber Horn earned an assist on Olson’s power play tally at 6:07.

River Lakes took a 3-0 lead on a power play goal from Dalayne Hatlestad, assisted by Sophie Olson, at 7:02 of the second period.  Breck-Wahp responded at 10:45 when Kennedy Schuler scored from Reagan Wohlers and Lilly Beyer, cutting the lead to 3-1.  River Lakes pushed the lead to 5-1 after two periods with an even strength, unassisted goal from Ayla McLellan, and a power play goal from Sophia Hess, assisted by Brianna Wileman and McLellan.

Just 31 seconds into the third period, Hess notched her second goal of the night with an assist from Sophie Olson, making it a 6-1 River Lakes lead.  Two minutes into the period Breck-Wahp got their final goal when Wohlers found the back of the net, unassisted.  The last goal of the game came at 13:48 as Hess completed her power play with assists from Sophie Olson and Wileman.
