The Perham boys’ basketball team rode a great late season run to a Class AA State Tournament berth last season, but they lost six players to graduation.  Despite the losses, the Yellowjackets bring back a solid group of experienced varsity players that will keep them competitive throughout a very tough Heart O’ Lakes Conference schedule.

“We have nice length in our lineup,” said Head Coach Dave Cresap.  “We should be a very good defensive team, along with strong rebounding.  We need to find some perimeter shooters who are confident to knock down shots.  Our younger guys have to fill some much needed roles.  This is such a tough conference and section so we need to be ready each night for a tough battle.”

Returning letter winners include seniors Micah Thompson (G), Soren Anderson (G), Jacob Daniels (G), Alex Ohm (P), Noah Thompson (G), Connor Colliton (G) and Evan Kovash (G), and juniors Gage Aanenson (G), Noah Novotny (F), Mason Happel (G), Blaiz Schmidt (F) and Brandon Sandberg (P).

Varsity newcomers looking to earn court time include senior Isaiah Lehmann (G), juniors Brekken Wokasch (G) and Will Baker (F), and sophomores Ashton Detloff (F), Cole Reuter (G), Maddux Swentik (F), Tyrus Couldron (G), Davonte Hill (G), De’Marje Hill (P) and Kareem Muhaisen (F).

Cresap will be assisted by Brian Schwantz, Grant Dierkhising, and Brent HansonRyan Reuter and Tim Schmitz are volunteer coaches.

According to Cresap, Pelican Rapids, DGF, Fergus Falls, Barnesville, Hawley and Thief River Falls will all compete for the Section 8AA title, with the Vikings, Rebels, Trojans and Nuggets being the top teams in the HOL.
