The Barnesville girls’ basketball team lost some quality talent to graduation. Lauren Halverson (HOL All-Conference, BB at Concordia College), Lexi Bolgrean (HOL Honorable Mention), Emily Bredman (HOL Honorable Mention, VB at St. Kate’s) and Trinity Gregg (Softball at Jamestown) will all be missed.  Despite those losses, the Trojans have a group of strong athletes returning to form the nucleus for their 2022-23 squad.

“This year's team will be trying to bounce back from a season that was derailed by major injuries,” reported Head Coach Ryan Bomstad, now in his eleventh season. “Our ladies really persevered through many bumps in the road last season. They played their best basketball at the end of the year. Their season ended in the Section Quarterfinals to State Runner up Fergus Falls. Our ladies know they will need to raise their level of play to compete and challenge the top teams in the section. The Section will be stacked once again with a number of great teams. We have a fantastic group of young ladies that get along so well with each other on and off the court. This group really loves the game and competes very hard. You will see a team that plays hard from the tip off until the final buzzer. Practice should be highly competitive and we will aim to play our best basketball in February and March.”

Returning letter winners are Abby John (So. Guard), Kenadee Gray (Jr. Guard), Belle Peterson (Sr. Guard), Jaida Bontjes (Sr. Guard), Kenzie Skogen (Sr. Guard), Sydney Strand (Sr. Guard) and Emily Smith (Sr. Post).  Several were members of the volleyball team this fall that qualified for the state tournament.

Players new to varsity include juniors Lindsey Rotz (Guard) and Hadley Pearson (Post), and sophomores Sophie Frederick (Guard), Macie Pauna (Guard), Ava Follingstad (Post) and Lexi Hoeft (Post).

Ali Honrud and Nycole Mouritsen will serve as assistant coaches to Bomstad.

Coach Bomstad sees Perham, Barnesville, Hawley, Pelican Rapids and Crookston as the top teams in Section 8AA.
