Wadena-Deer Creek had a 15-11 overall record last year and their girls’ basketball team will try to rebuild with the loss of 7 seniors to graduation, including a pair of all-conference performers in Lauryn Gravelle and Madison Packer.  That being said, the cupboard is far from bare.  “We will be a different team this year as we have a lot of roles to fill,” acknowledged Head Coach Jordan Cresap.  “We will be inexperienced in some spots, but also return our leading scorers.”

Senior Madison Carsten (G) is back after missing almost two full seasons from injuries.  “She adds a lot to this team so it will be great having her back playing,” said Coach Cresap.  Senior guard Ally Pavek also returns, along with sophomore returning starters Addyson Gravelle (G) and Montana Carsten (G) and eighth-grader Payton Gravelle (P).

Key newcomers to the varsity will be sophomore post Jenna Dykhoff and freshman guard Kennedy Ness.

“We don’t have a lot of size, so a key for us will be rebounding,” noted Cresap.  “We have a tough schedule, but we expect to compete night in and night out.”

Wendy Gravelle (JV) and Jordan Anderson (C Team) will serve as assistant coaches.

Cresap sees Perham, Barnesville, Hawley, Pelican Rapids and Crookston as teams that will be at the top of Section 8AA, while Henning, New York Mills and Menahga are his picks in the Park Region Conference.
