Five Fergus Falls swimmers competed in the preliminary round of the Class A Girls’ State Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the U of M.  None of the five Otters advanced to day two.  To get to the finals swimmers need to be in the top sixteen in their specific events with the top 8 competing in the championship finals and the next 8 in the consolation finals.  All five of the Otters are underclassmen.

Estee VerSteeg was in three events, including the 500 freestyle where she finished 21st with a time of 5:38.79 and the 200 IM where she was 23rd with a time of 2:24.63.  VerSteeg was joined by teammates Alexis Wellman, Mayah Fear and Karlie Peterson in the 200 freestyle relay where the Otters finished 20th with a time of 1:45.79.  Wellman ended up 22nd with a time of 57.85 in the 100 freestyle and Aisling Cox participated in the 100 backstroke, coming in 21st with a time of 57.85.

Perham/New York Mills divers Brittney Lorentz (7th – 252.60 points) and Avery McAllister (18th – 209.15 points) both moved into the finals, while Taylor Ziemke failed to advance in the 50 freestyle, finishing 24th with a time of 25.70.
