Womens Basketball Season Begins with Home Court Loss for M State

The Women’s College Basketball season opened on Saturday afternoon in Fergus Falls as the M State Spartans hosted Northland Community College.  The Pioneers were 70-42 winners.

"We played with ten new freshmen today,” noted M State Head Coach Jodi Holleman.  “It will be great when we can add Lindsey Kurz and Emily Dehler who were both participating in the National Volleyball Playoffs.”

The Spartans were led by Itzel Salazar with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a blocked shot.  Ashley Dreger was also in double figures with 10 points.  She grabbed 4 rebounds and had a pair of steals.  Kiera Cox added 6 points, 3 boards and 3 assists and Keely Foley finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and one block.  M State shot 30% (15-5) from the field.

Northland made 42% of their field goal attempts and hit 9-of-22 3’s.  Emma Osborn had a team high 18 points and Kasey Stegman added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals.
