The Barnesville Trojans are attempting to qualify for the State Football Playoffs for a sixth straight year, minus the 2020 COVID interruption, and are one step from accomplishing that goal after a 57-0 victory over the Frazee Hornets on Saturday in Barnesville.

“We played a near perfect first half and the scored indicated that at halftime,” said Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand. “We ran 12 plays in the first quarter scoring on four of them, and then on the first play of the 2nd quarter we put in another one.  Things were clicking and the boys were ready to play the game.  That nice break from week 8 game to this Saturday was very nice for the team and we were able to heal up a bit.  Frazee is a very good team and we were concerned coming into the game with their speed in the backfield as well as their aggressiveness up front.  They are a scrappy bunch.”

Zachary Bredman got things started with a 25 yard TD pass to Dawson Gregg.  An Isaac Maneval extra point kick gave the Trojans a 7-0 lead.  John Roller then broke loose for a 55 yard TD run and Maneval made it a 14-0 game with his PAT kick.  Bredman scored on a 5 yard run and Maneval added another PAT kick for a 21-0 Barnesville lead.  The Trojans increased their first quarter advantage to 28-0 on a 43 yard pass from Gannon Bolgrean to Gregg and a Maneval kick.

Roller started the second quarter with a 50 yard TD run and Maneval’s fifth extra point kick gave the Trojans a 35-0 lead.  Bolgrean then connected with Andrew Pederson on a 4 yard scoring toss and Maneval’s boot put the score at 42-0.  Ethan Larson ran in from six yards out and Maneval added his seventh PAT kick for a 49-0 halftime lead for the Trojans.

The final score of the day came on a 10 yard TD run by Noah Stanford in the fourth quarter.  A bad snap on the extra point kick led to Maneval throwing a successful two-point conversion pass to Braeden Bredman to put the final score at 57-0.

“We were able to get backup QB Gannon Bolgrean some very valuable time as he and Zachary switched off series in the first half,” reported Coach Strand. “Gannon is a very talented runner.  Zachary also did a nice job was 4/4 passing with two TD's and Gannon was 1/1 with a TD.  Honestly, I can't pick out one to two things that really stood out all day except the boys played hard the entire game and really were firing on all cylinders. I am extremely proud of their effort.”

Barnesville accumulated 452 yards of offense on the day, with 352 coming on the ground.  Defensively, the Trojans held Frazee to only 65 yards and 3 first downs.

Roller had 113 rushing yards on just 3 touches and Larson ran for 72 yards on 6 carries.  Gregg was the leading receiver with 2 receptions for 48 yards.  Tate Inniger caught two passes for 28 yards.  Nick Robideau had 20 defensive points, recording 2 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle, a fumble recovery, a tipped pass and a sack.  Bolgrean had an interception, while Tim Wells and Inniger shared a sack.

“Next up is Crookston and they have been playing very well as of late,” noted Strand.  “They have UND commit Ethan Boll in the backfield as well as at DE, he is a force.  They have a very nice senior bunch of kids who have obviously worked very hard to put themselves in the section 8AA championship game.  We will need a great week of prep and have the boys ready come Friday night.”
