The volleyball season ended on Friday night for the West Central Area Knights as they suffered a 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23) loss at the hands of the Litchfield Dragons in Section 3AA first round playoff action.  “This was a repeat match from last year in the first round of the playoffs,” recalled WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “Last year’s match went five, with the Knights coming out on top.  This time around we weren’t as fortunate.  We knew we’d have to play scrappy defense in this one.”

The lady Knights were led by Mya Foslien (13/14 serving, 1 ace, 19 kills, 10 digs, 1 block), Macy Grosz (34 set assists, 10/10 serving, 1 block, 24 digs), Madelyn Westrom (18 digs, 12/15 serving, 1 ace), Izzy Puchalski (16/16 serving, 6 digs, 8 kills, 1 block), Whitney Westrom (9/10 serving, 15 digs, 5 kills, 3 blocks), Lexi Hunter (22/24 serving, 1 ace), Sophie Sanstead (21 digs) and Wylie McNally (6 digs).

“We had the lead in the first set, 19-13, but let the Dragons back in with some tough rounds of serve receive,” reported Coach Foslien.  “We know that we cannot let teams get big runs on us.  The momentum can shift so quickly.  You have to keep serving.  Set two was not much better for us in the passing area.  We dug deep and battled it out in set three to stretch the night to a fourth set.  A slow start in the fourth kept us playing catch-up.  A service run by Izzy with the score 19-24 gave us hope.  She served four straight to make the score 23-24, but we ran out of room for errors and this time around we came up short.  Macy, Madelyn and Sophie had great nights defensively, Mya led us in kills and Izzy played impressively out of the middle.  She is really going to be an asset to our program in the future.  That's the thing with this team, we are still very young.  We graduate Lexi Hunter in the spring, but we will have the majority of our team back for a few years.”

The Knights wrap up their season with a record of 18-10.
