Lady Spartans to Play for Region 13 Title on Saturday

The M State lady Spartans traveled to Virginia to compete in the Region 13 Volleyball Tournament, hosted by the number one seed in the North, Mesabi Range.  In their opening round match M State, the number two seed from the South, recorded a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-18) victory over the number three seed from the North, Northland Community College from Thief River Falls.  That win advanced the lady Spartans into a match with St. Cloud Technical and Community College at 1:00pm Saturday.  The winner of that match will qualify for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in Rochester November 10-12.

Faith Marion had a solid all-around match for M State with 10 kills, 11 digs and 3 service aces.  Kaleigh Sip added 10 kills, Kaia Strom had 7 kills, 27 set assists and 13 digs, and Brooke Hovland contributed 6 kills, a solo block and a block assist.  Emily Dehler and Lindsey Kurz recorded 5 and 4 kills, respectively, with Dehler adding 4 solo blocks and Kurz a pair of solo blocks.

Libero Avery Wanner had 27 digs, distributed 7 assists and delivered a pair of service aces.  Serving leaders were Marion (22/23), Kendra Emery (10/11), Wanner (9/11) and Kaia Strom (7/7).
