Sykora Breaks All-Time Rushing Mark as Knights Advance with 22-14 Win Over Pillager

Anthony Sykora became the all-time career rushing leader for West Central Area/Ashby on Tuesday night, surpassing the 3,617 yards accumulated by Paul Winter between the 1992 and 1995 seasons.  Sykora ran for 102 yards on 19 carries to break the record.  The Knights had 445 yards of offense on the way to their 22-14 win over Pillager in the Section 6AA quarterfinal round game at Barrett.

Brady Lindquist completed 10-of-15 passes for 276 yards and Sykora completed 2-of-3 passing attempts for 35 yards, giving WCA/Ashby 311 passing yards on the night.  Each player threw a TD pass to Cole Anderson who had 5 receptions for 121 yards.  Anderson is within 15 yards of the all-time receiving mark for the Knights.  Ben Bye had one catch for 71 yards.

The Knights scored with 4:47 left in the first quarter on a halfback pass from Sykora to Anderson, covering 22 yards.  Sykora ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Sykora scored on an 8 yard run and Bye caught the two-point conversion pass to build the Knights lead to 16-0.

Pillager got on the board midway through the third quarter on a 2 yard run by Christian Hooge, cutting the Knights lead to 16-6.  WCA/Ashby responded with a 50 yard TD pass to Anderson from Lindquist on a 3rd and 29 play.

Hooge scored his second TD of the night in the fourth quarter and then hit Justin Anderson for the two-point conversion, closing the gap to 22-14.  The Huskies got the ball back, but the Knights were able to hold on for the win.

Pillager had 269 rushing yards and 273 total yards in the game.  Hooge ran for 88 yards on 19 carries and Derek Hoglin was the top rusher, going for 115 yards on 13 attempts.

West Central Area/Ashby will travel to Osakis on Saturday for a 2:00pm Section semifinal contest against the top-seeded Silverstreaks.
