Rothsay Handles Ortonville as Karson Jensen Scores 5 TD's

The Rothsay football team scored on 7 of their 9 offensive possessions Wednesday night as they ended their regular season with a 54-34 win over the Ortonville Trojans.  The Tigers had 395 yards of total offense, 317 of which came on the ground.  Karson Jensen ran for 188 yards and 5 touchdowns.

After getting a defensive stop on the firs Ortonville possession, the Tigers marched 70 yards down the field and score on a 32 yard TD pass from Karter Jensen to Matthew Danielson.  They added the two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.  Ortonville answered with a score of their own, making it 8-6.  On the next drive Rothsay scored again on a 14 yard run by Karson Jensen and added another two-point conversion for a 16-8 lead after one quarter of play.

Ortonville was able to put another TD on the board to start the second quarter, and added a two-point conversion to trim the Tigers lead to 16-14.  Rothsay then went on a streak of 5 drives in a row of unanswered touchdowns.  Two of them came in the second quarter with Karson Jensen scoring on an 8 yard run and Matthew Danielson coming up with a pick six to give Rothsay a 30-14 halftime advantage.

In the third quarter, it was all Rothsay.  Scoring twice on a 6 yard run and a 3 yard run from Karson Jensen to make the score 42-14.

In the fourth quarter the Tigers scored quickly on a 16 yard pass to Danielson form Karter Jensen.  Ortonville was able to score a pair of TD’s to make the score 48-28.  Karson Jensen was able to score for the fifth time on the next drive with a 5 yard run to put the score at 54-28.  Ortonville put one more TD on the board, making the final score 54-34.

Matthew Danielson had 3 catches for 77 yards and 2 TD’s.  Karter Jensen completed 4-of-10 passes for 78 yards and 2 scores, while running for 74 yards on 18 attempts.

“Our offense was firing on all cylinders tonight,” commented Head Coach Joel Meyer of Rothsay.  “Our defense came up with 3 turnovers and we scored on all of them.  This is the second best regular season that I have been a part of.  It has been fun, but we are not done yet.  We need to keep the momentum going into the playoffs.”

The Tigers will host Hillcrest at 6:00pm Tuesday in a Section 4 9-Man quarterfinal round playoff game.
