The New York Mills high school football team traveled to Waubun for a contest against Mahnomen-Waubun to end their regular season schedule.  The Eagles were able to score late to pull out a 26-21 victory heading into the post season where they are the number on seed in Section 6A and will host Underwood on Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round.

“What a fun night,” said New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki. “Great atmosphere big crowd for both sides and a great high school football game played by two good teams.  The game was a very physical contest as both teams rely on their running game and it was that.”

Mahnomen-Waubun jumped out to an early lead of 8-0 only to see the Eagles come back on a Brayden Ehnert to DaShaun Robinson 44 yard touchdown pass and 2 point play that went Ehnert to Robinson again.

The Eagles scored the next 12 points only to see Mahnomen-Waubun score the next 13 to take a 21-20 lead in the fourth quarter.  New York Mills scores came on an 8 yard run by Jonah Ruther and a one yard run by Ehnert.

The Eagles used a big fourth quarter drive that ended in Ehnert hitting Robinson again for a 37 yard touchdown pass and a 26-21 lead.  The Thunderhawks had one last chance but the Eagles defense held strong with their third fourth down stop of the night securing the win.  “Our defense did a really nice job of shutting down their quarterback,” noted Coach Radniecki. “He made some plays but we didn't give up the big play.  We also forced four fumbles that we recovered to help our defense out.  On offense we ran the ball and made some big plays in the passing game.  Great win and a fun night.”

The Eagles end the regular season with a 7-1 record.  Tuesday’s game in New York Mills begins at 6:00pm.
