Sykora Runs for 267 yards as Knights Defeat Rockets 34-7

After a scoreless first quarter in Underwood on Wednesday night, the West Central Area/Ashby Knights got things going in the right direction with a 12 point second quarter.  They added 14 third quarter points and eight fourth quarter points to record a 34-7 victory over the Rockets.

 

Anthony Sykora completed a 44 yard TD pass to Cole Anderson to get the Knights on the scoreboard one minute into the second quarter.  A 21 yard run with 6:16 left in the half by Nas Dots put the halftime lead at 12-0.

In the third quarter, Sykora scored on a 15 yard run and Brady Lindquist connected with Hunter Gruchow on a two-point conversion pass, increased the WCA/Ashby lead to 20-0.  An 8 yard TD pass from Lindquist to Sykora made it 26-0 at the end of three quarters.

Underwood scored on an 11 yard touchdown toss from Noah Link to Jack Parker and a Parker extra point kick to cut the Knights lead to 26-7 nine seconds into the final quarter.  West Central Area/Ashby closed out the scoring with a 7 yard TD pass from Lindquist to Anderson and a two-point conversion pass from Lindquist to Adam Lohse to end the game with a 34-7 victory.

WCA/Ashby had 413 yards of total offense (84 passing, 329 rushing).  Sykora ran the ball 30 times for 267 yards and caught two passes for 33 yards.  Anderson had two receptions for 51 yards and Lindquist completed 3-of-12 passes for 40 yards and 2 TD’s.  Sykora, Dotts and Sam Hansen led the defense with 5 tackles each and Will Rustan recorded a sack.

The Rockets finished with just 140 total yards, 114 passing, 26 rushing).  Link was 11-for-22 passing for 99 yards and a score.  Owen Harig ran the ball 9 times for 15 yards and the leading receivers were Evan Lundgren (3 catches, 34 yards) and Conner Nelson (3 catches, 31 yards).  Harig had 9.5 tackles to lead the defense and Lundgren came up with a sack and an interception.

Coach Ryan Hendrickson said, "It was a great night to honor our Seniors Tonight.  To our seniors and their parents Jayden, Conner, Conner, Jack, Jacob, Hunter, and Dylan; Thank you for all you have done for our football program.  We also had our tackle cancer game in which we were able to honor people who have, or have had cancer. Thank you all for your support!”

Section seedings will be announced on Thursday with the playoffs beginning on Tuesday night.
