The #2 seed Alexandria Cardinal Boys Soccer team played host to the #3 seed St Cloud Tech Tigers on Tuesday evening for the Section 8AA Semifinal playoff match. These teams have a long history of playing tough with one another and that night was no different. While the Cardinals took a win and a draw over the Tigers during the regular season, this match showed the true strength of each team.
With the Tigers finding the first goal early in the 8th minute of play, the Cardinals were in a deficit for most of the game. Finally in the 78th minute of play Cole Haabala was able to find a goal to equalize the game. This pushed the match into golden goal overtime. With another 20 scoreless minutes, the match was decided by penalty kicks. With the first round of PKs tied at 5/5, the match was decided in the second round with a final tally of 6 for and 7 against.
After 100 minutes of play both teams dug deep to find the strength to finish the match and prove why section playoffs are so great to participate in.
The Gatorade of the Game went to Sr Captain Bryce Paffrath for his continued effort for 100 minutes of play and dedication to carrying a positive attitude through the entire match.
The Cardinal Boys Soccer team ends their 2022 Season with a record of 9-6-3. With many great moments, the team should be proud of their accomplishments as we close the season.
