West Central Area hosted Montevideo in their final regular season home volleyball action on Tuesday night and the Knights outlasted the visitors in a five set match, winning 25-22, 25-17, 20-25, 17-25, 15-10.  “This was the best night of blocking all year,” pointed out WCA Head Coach Missy Foslien.  “We had thirteen ace blocks together as a team and 5 alone from Mya Foslien.”

Other block leaders were Whitney Westrom (3), Macy Grosz (2), Izzy Puchalski (2) and Madelyn Westrom (1).

Serving leaders were Foslien (10/12), Grosz (12/12), Whitney Westrom (14/15, 2 aces), Madelyn Westrom (23/23, 1 ace) and Puchalski (12/14, 1 ace).

Grosz dished out 37 set assists and Foslien led the attack at the net with 23 kills.  Addison Staples added 14 and Puchalski chipped in with 7.

Madelyn led the defensive effort with 18 digs.  Foslien had 15, Sophie Sanstead 14, Grosz 10 and Alaina Sykora 9.

“Set one was a back-and-forth battle,” said Coach Foslien of the lady Knights.  “We did not receive well off the serve and we also missed three serves, but we still pulled out the win.  The second set was the best we’ve played in a while as Mya and Addison combined for 12 kills.  A shift in momentum occurred in the third and a fourth sets as runs by Montevideo late in both sets threatened the Knights confidence.  Set five was back-and-forth until the Knights got to 10-7 and from there on out we got our game back.”

West Central Area heads to Fergus Falls for their Blocktoberfest Tournament on Thursday.
