The Brandon-Evansville Chargers had their offense in high gear on Friday night as they gained 503 total yards, with 414 coming on the ground, in a 62-28 win over the Bertha-Hewitt Bears.  B-E held the Bears to 237 total yards (54 passing, 183 rushing).

"We responded well after the setback we had in Rothsay the previous week,” said Head Coach Dan Johnson of Brandon-Evansville. “We played more physical in all facets of the game. Offensively, we blocked much better on the edges and ran more physically. Our three top ball carriers averaged over 16 yards per carry and that does not happen unless blockers stay glued to their blocks. Our defense did a much better job of being physical with blockers and aggressively getting off blocks. Unfortunately, our aggressiveness led to some personal fouls. We need to do a better job of playing with controlled physicality."

Micah Fuller scored on a 40 yard run just 9 seconds into the game, giving the Chargers an early 6-0 lead.  B-E increased their lead to 14-0 with 6:25 left in the first quarter when Logan Haburn ran in from 16 yards out and Fuller was successful on his two point conversion run.  Deagen Captain got the Bears on the board with a 43 yard TD run, cutting the Chargers lead to 14-6.  Brandon-Evansville extended their lead to 22-6 when Haburn scored on a 5 yard run and Ryland Yeats had a successful conversion run.

The Chargers scored with 8:01 left in the half on Haburn’s third TD of the night, a 65 yard run, making it 28-6.  Bertha-Hewitt cut the lead to 28-14 on a 25 yard TD pass from Captain to Carter Wilhelmi and a two point conversion run by Captain.  Eight seconds later Fuller completed a 47 yard TD pass to Stephen Hamilton and Yeats scored on the two-point conversion run, putting the score a 36-14 in favor of B-E.  Bertha-Hewitt pulled to within 36-20 when Wilhelmi intercepted a Fuller pass and scored to make it 36-20, Chargers at the half.

In the third quarter, Fuller hit Hamilton with a 25 yard scoring toss and Haburn scored the two-point conversion for a 44-20 B-E lead.  They made it 50-20 on a 10 yard run by Fuller, and then scored on a 65-yard run by Yeats for a 56-20 lead with 2:42 left in the third quarter.

A fourth quarter TD pass from Fuller to Brady Perleberg from the one yard line saw the score grow to 62-20 with 7:43 left in the game.  Bertha-Hewitt scored with just 26 seconds left when Trenton Becker hit Michael Proell for a 5 yard TD.  Becker also scored the two-point conversion to put the final score at 62-28 in favor of Brandon-Evansville.

Fuller completed 5-of-9 passes for 89 yards and 3 scores, Yeats ran the ball 11 times for 181 yards, Haburn had 150 yards on 9 carries and Fuller carried the ball 5 times for 83 yards. The leading receiver was Hamilton with 2 catches for 72 yards and 2 TD’s.  Will Englund led the defensive effort with 16.5 tackles, 12 solo and 9 assisted, forced three fumbles and had a fumble recovery.  Haburn had 7 tackles and Hamilton finished with 6.5 tackles.

Bertha-Hewitt quarterback Deagen Captain was 1-for-2 for 25 yards and a score.  He was replaced by Trenton Becker who was 3-for-6 for 18 yards and a touchdown.  The rushing leader for the Bears was Captain with 94 yards on 20 carries.
