Cowboys Beat Nuggets for Fourth Straight Victory

The Breckenridge Cowboys got stronger as the game went on Friday night in Hawley.  The Cowboys trailed 20-14 at the half and 26-14 after three quarters, however, they were able to rally for 22 fourth quarter points while holding the Nuggets to 6 and recording a 36-32 victory.

Hawley got the scoring started with a 40 yard touchdown run, but the Cowboys took a 7-6 lead when Alex Sanchez scored on a 24 yard run and Gusten Bergkvist Eriksson booted the extra point.  The Nuggets then scored on a 7 yard run and added the two point conversion to take a 14-7 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Hawley scored on a 13 yard run to take a 20-7 lead.  Sanchez then scored his second TD of the night for the Cowboys, this time on a 5 yard run and the extra point kick put the score at 20-14 going into the locker room at halftime.

Hawley scored on a 2 yard run in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 26-14. 

Gavin Pederson scored on a 6 yard run to bring Breckenridge to within 5 points at 26-21 after the PAT kick.  Hawley scored on a 5 yard run to take the lead to 32-21, however, Breckenridge scored on a 5 yard TD pass from Bailey Evans and added a two point conversion pass from Evans to Dawson Wienbar, making the score 32-29.  Pederson scored his second TD of the game on a 5 yard run and Gusten Bergkvist Eriksson tacked on the extra point to make the final score 36-32.

Evans completed 8-of-13 passes for 100 yards.  Pederson (17 carries, 82 yards, 2 TD’s) and Sanchez (13 carries, 81 yards, 2 TD’s) were a solid one-two combination in the Cowboys running game.  Landon Blaufuss caught a team high 4 passes for 74 yards to lead the receivers.

Breckenridge had 242 rushing yards and 100 passing yards for a total of 342 yards on the night.  Hawley had 367 rushing yards and 10 passing yards for 377 total yards.  No individual Hawley stats were reported.

Breckenridge (5-2) won for a fourth straight week.  They will host Pelican Rapids (6-1) in their final regular season game on Wednesday night.
