Tyra Skjeret scored three goals and assisted on another, and Madi Budke had two goals to go along with a pair of assists Thursday afternoon to lead the Fergus Falls girls’ soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Pelican Rapids in the Section 8A quarterfinals.

The Otters struck just 41 seconds into the game when Ella Starzl found the back of the net, converting a beautiful pass from Budke.  Sjkeret scored from Budke on a thru ball and then got another goal off an assist from Lexi Metcalf, before assisting on a Budke goal as the Otters built their lead to 4-0 at halftime.

“We got off to a quick start with Starzl getting us on the board, which was nice,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “After that we started to clump and struggled to move the ball for most of the remaining first half and made it harder on ourselves than we needed to.”

In the second half Yana Prischmann scored twice with the first goal being assisted by Ella Sem and the second goal unassisted, increased the lead for Fergus Falls to 6-0.  Unassisted tallies by Budke and Skjeret finished the scoring for the day.

“We made a couple of modifications to our formation in the second half and did a much better job of spreading the field and moving the ball, giving ourselves great looks at scoring chances,” noted Jurgens.  “I thought our juniors and seniors did a great job with our younger players, communicating with them to help knock off the nerves of playoff soccer.”

The Otters will entertain Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at noon on Saturday in a Section 8A semifinal contest at the Otter Stadium Field in Fergus Falls.
