The Fergus Falls boys’ soccer team wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard on Thursday afternoon as Shane Zierden took the throw-in and sent the ball perfectly out in front of the net where Aiden Shern was able to get his head on it for the goal 45 seconds into the match with Crookston at the Otter Stadium Field.  Fergus Falls went on to post a 3-0 win, advancing to the semifinal round of the Section 8A playoffs, where they will meet Hillcrest Lutheran Academy at 2:00pm Saturday.

“We continued with good offensive pressure the rest of the first half,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Joel Heikes.  “That paid off as Nick Flugstad took the ball into the box, but was taken down by the Crookston defense resulting in the Otters getting a penalty kick at the 38 minute mark.  Jose Rodriguez took the PK, the Crookston goalkeeper stopped his initial shot, but Jose stayed with it and banged in the rebound for a 2-0 lead.

“The Otters started the second half a little slow, but the defense held strong led by a great performance by Kasey Eggen,” noted Heikes.  “We gained control of the game against and defenseman Joey Johnson dribbled the ball up through multiple players and scored a beautiful goal from about the 18, with an assist from Shern at the 56 minute mark.  Jaydon Manteufel saved all shots coming his way, including one PK.”
