Alexandria hosted the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm on Thursday night to kick-off the Section 8AA boys’ soccer playoffs with a quarterfinal match. While the wind chill and light snow made for a memorable experience, the Cardinals were able to secure the lone goal of the match in the 22nd minute of play from Jack Carlson, assisted by Cole Haabala.
Match play was solid as Sauk Rapids’ skill level doesn’t match their ranking. This made for a great match between two teams who fought until the final whistle.
Gatorade of the Game went to Tripp Shatek for his continued pressure on the attacking front and his dedication to support his team throughout the entire match.
The Cardinals advance to 9-5-3 on the season and will be matched against St. Cloud Tech in the Section 8AA Semifinals. This semifinal match will be on the Cardinals home field on Tuesday, with a 7:00pm kick-off.
